Word War II was one of the largest war in human
history involving man and machines and spanned across the entire world that
lasted from 1939 to 1945. All the great countries formed into two alliances,
The Allies and The Axis, involving more than 100 million people and each and
every country put in all their economic and scientific strengths into use in
this world war also known as the Second World War. The World War II saw the use
of the most powerful weapons and eventually the culmination of the war with the
use of nuclear weapons.
Infantry
Machine gun: The beginning of World War II
didn’t see many of the inventions as armies were still using old machine guns and
gun holsters from the First World
War. And as the war progressed, there was a remarkable increase in developments
in the areas of scientific inventions in guns and firearms.
Small arms: Hand-held guns or Pistols and
Rifles were the most used weapons in the World War II, as they were simple and
easy to use weapons and can be mass manufactured and used mostly by the
infantry soldiers. Most hand held guns were used without any gun holsters.
Artillery
Field
Artillery: Field
Artillery played a crucial role in World War II, as it was used in a lot of
ways to support the armies in the field, to make the enemy ground attack weaker
with the use of long range and short range weapons or to help armies hold the
line until the heavy artillery arrives.
Heavy
artillery: Heavy
Artillery was used in large numbers in both the First and Second World Wars,
mostly the Germans who were on an invading spree, so heavy artilleries helped
them to destroy the enemies and demoralize them before the armies and field
artilleries reached and captured the cities and towns.
Tanks
With the Tanks playing a major part in World War I,
many countries believed that future developments and advancements in Tanks may
help them win the war and so they put in all their scientific resources in
developing the next advanced Tanks. German tanks dominated all other countries
by their sheer power and flexibility and destroyed the land armies of men with
guns and gun holsters.
Aircraft
Fighter
Planes: Even
though they were not fully utilized in the First World War, the aircrafts found
their way into the Second World War by the invention of small and deadly
fighter airplanes. They played a crucial role in providing support to ground
troops and ships laden with armies.
Bombers: Bombers played a crucial role
by causing heavy damage to the enemies by dropping massive firepower into the
enemy’s area and also destroying all major buildings and installations,
communication centers and military establishments and thus completely
destroying the strengths of the enemy before the ground troops and artillery
arrives.
Naval units
The World War II also witnessed the rise of
Battleships as they unleashed massive firepower from the sea and also for
transportation of large armies from one place to another.
Submarines were also used widely in World
War II in effectively destroying enemy Battleships.
